Photos so real as to be almost surreal
Now here is a talented photographer/artist!
Arno Rafael Minkkinen has made black and white photographic works for over 30 years.
This Finnish-born artist stretches the definition of self-portrait to new limits. Minkkinen’s subject is himself, naked but placed in combination with a landscape or urban space.
His photographs are not digitally manipulated although at first glance you might think they were.
Minkkinen’s photographs are startling real but at the same time the beauty of the composition is breathtaking.
His current exhibition Home Work features a retrospective of photos shot over the years. A book is also being released in conjunction with the exhibition.
I admire his tenacity to run around and photograph himself naked for 30 years. That type of commitment to an artistic vision might have been poo-poo-ed when he first began showing his photographs.
But 30 years later, and still naked, Minkkinen’s photos are now sought after by major museums.
