Where do the Florentines shop?
So there we were in Florence, Italy shopping our little brains out in these fabulous designer stores in the centre of the city.
Well, for me, I was mostly looking rather than actually buying.
Back at the olive grove where we were staying, the owner’s wife did a “mamma mia” slap to her forehead when she found out we’d bought things in the city centre.
She told us she’d take us the next day to where the locals shop.
Where would that be, you ask? Nothing less than a North American style Designer Outlet Mall!
We drove about 45 minutes north of Florence. I was shocked as we took an autostrade exit to the Barberino di Mugello Designer Outlet Mall.
The pedestrian-style mall was brand spanking new with some 90 stores including Prada, Pollini, Missoni, Guess, Bruno Magli, Adidas, Bennetton, Pirelli and lots more.

In retrospect, it was sort of like landing in a space-time anomaly if truth be told. Within minutes of where we were staying we could shop at all the high-end designer stores right in the city centre of Florence. Who would have thought there would be an outlet mall just as accessible and half the price?
