Here's a grouping of photos including the hippie van and the artwork Volkswagon Beetle. Lots of plastic creativity went into both cars.

This week’s theme is PLASTIC. A few weeks ago, Vancouver’s famous 4th Avenue held a street fair called “Hippie Days.”

Here are a few shots of two cars on exhibit during the hippie street fair. I think true hippies would abhor plastic of any type, don’t you?

Fourth avenue was closed off for about 10 blocks. Most of the merchants had lots of specials and of course there were many temporary tents selling tie-tyed and pseudo-hippie junk.

A huge stage was positioned right at 4th and Vine, just two blocks away from my house. The music was so loud, I didn’t even have to step outside of my house to relive all those great hippie tunes.

I think almost everyone selling stuff was too young to actually remember those golden days of love-ins and be-ins and peace-ins and everything that went along with the hippie era.

I still think hippies would have abhorred the thought of seeing a VW beetle and van plastered with plastic parts.

Here’s the photos shown in the collage above.

Great photos! Must have been a fun and exciting fair. I like the funky decors on that beetle. So cool!

Great shot and an interesting post. No I don’t think true hippies went for plastic. I mean man that’s so plastic. I was only 12 during the summer of love but I’m sure I would have enjoyed the look back at Vancouver’s street fair because that would have been, to an extent, “talkin bout my generation”. Thanks for stirring up memories.

OMG! Boy, does this bring back tons o’ memories. Good AND Bad….lol

It’s a terrific work for the week’s theme Larry. I love it. “Peace, Brother”!!!!

[it’s also ironic that when we lived in Tucson Arizona, long about USA’s thanksgiving week, OUR 4th avenue was cordoned off for a street fair]
