I struggled with this week’s music theme and then the fat lady sang so to speak. My friend’s daughter Tara just released her third independent CD called Global Baby.
But wait, not only am I showing you the CD cover, I’m linking you to a site where you can hear tracks from Tara’s CD. If you like what you hear, you can purchase Global Baby on-line at the CD Baby website.
What a bonus for you all. The photo and the music all in one place for PhotoHunters. Make sure you scroll down to the end of this post to see some candid photos of an up-and-coming Canadian artist.
On the CD liner-notes, Tara even gives a big shout out thanks to her “Uncle Larry”. Tara always calls me her biggest fan. I hype her CD every chance I can get — sooooo, here’s another promo for her music.
THIS WHAT THE CRITICS SAY
“I’m an average woman in my abnormality.” It’s lyrics like this that flow throughout this album and make for a refreshing take on funk-laced neo soul.
She really runs the gamut on this collection of full bodied songs, incorporating horns, keys, scratching, and an unending array of rhythmic elements that leave no groove unturned. Reminiscent of 70’s soul but lavishly updated with a stylistically modern hip hop and R&B feel, the songs can’t help but have a wide appeal.
Moving from densely layered choruses to driving verses that embrace complex harmonies and even some rapping, the vocal intricacies alone are enough to make this record stand out. Add to that some intensely fluid playing by her accomplished backing band, and you’ve got an all out celebration of life, love and expression.
As the title implies, the songs are ambitious in their scope, delving into the effect of history on modern times and an ongoing search for ways to make the world a better place. With this album, she’s undoubtedly doing her part.

Tara sang “Summertime” (with some of the lyrics changed) — it was an emotional moment for everyone.
