Larry Hnetka Goes HMmmm

Scott J. is forcing me to do this. And yes, that’s his mug to the right (pun intended).

I will do my best but can’t promise I won’t resort to my oft used catch-phrase: “Don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story.”

1. I have grandiose ideas that someone out there will actually read my scratchings. I take no responsibility for what digesting my words may do but these are my words nonetheless.

2. I have no friends. Therefore, I have lots of time on my hands to blog. Time that might be shared with friends — if I had any.

3. I’m fascinated by the world as it moves and flows around me. Coming from another solar system helps somewhat as I do aspire to one day be chosen by Prot to return to K-Pax.

4. My nephew made me do it.

Four years ago, he made a simple website for my birthday. Then all hell broke loose.

He gave me space on a server. I thought and hmmmm’d and thought some more about just what I might do with this “domain name” and webspace I now was the proprietor of.

I Googled, I read, I kept running across this entity called Wordpress.

I believed their clever ploy of the “5 minute installation.” Ha, I say now in retrospect. Today with the Wordpress Codex and all the support yadda yadda, I would say yes, it is a simple install. Way back when four years ago, I should have known better.

It took me about four months to get my first Wordpress install to work. During that time I taught myself basic web design, HTML, PHP, SQL database stuff, javascript and lots more.

For all the hair-pulling this blogging stuff started out as, I am pleased with the knowledge blogging has given me.

5. I blog because I started to connect with people all over the world. I kept stumbling across some of the same bloggers again and again.

I marvelled at their wit, their way with words, their obvious knowledge of subject matter totally foreign to me. I tentatively entered the arena of actually commenting on blogs. Bloggers responded in kind.

I’ve only had one ugly blogging encounter during my entire blogging life. Little did I know my offhand, semi-sarcastic remark I made in an entry would spiral throughout one highway in the blogsphere and come back and bite me on the butt.

I tend to keep my sarcasm to myself because of that experience. At my age, my butt is just way too saggy for any irate bloggers to be biting at it over droll comments.

So that’s my five reasons why I blog. Now I have to tag four unsuspecting fellow bloggers. I am posting my reasons now and will ruminate about those to tag and make an addendum mañana.
