When wire just won’t do

mommie

Remember the scene from Mommie Dearest when Faye Dunaway portraying Joan Crawford screams at her daughter, “No wire coathangers”?

Ever since seeing that melodramatic, over-the-top bit of acting, I have used only plastic hangers.

What type of hangers do you use? Any tips for making sure your clothes don’t fall off the hangers?

For coathanger aficionados, take a look at these antique wire coathangers.

Now don’t these wire coathangers make you want to switch back from boring plastic hangers?

It’s funny you should mention this.
I actually have no idea where I got my hangers.

I have a mixture of both plastic and wire.

I think I got them from the cloths when bought and they were left behind from previous tenants. LOL

This movie, to this day, freaks me out.

I have wire hangers from the dry cleaners, but I’d never willingly buy them.

That woman was one twisted mother…literally.

    Hi,

Came over from Amy’s Scavenger Hunt.

We use only plastic hangers - usually 10 for $1 at Walmart. Never use wire anymore.

To keep clothes from falling off - maybe some adhesive tape on the edge of the hanger? Something to make it less slippery.

I came over from the scavenger hunt as well, I only use plastic hangers. I have never liked wire hangers.
I cant give you any hints for keeping clothes from falling off, but I will be back to your blog to see what others say LOL

I come from the great scavenger hunt at Amy’s! This movie was just on the other week and my daughter asked why that lady was going crazy over a wire hanger! I had the pleasure of explaining what a psycho she was :o)

I use plastic hangers. I’m always worried that since I’m allergic to metal, some of the metal hanger will come off onto my clothes and I’ll be itchy and it will eat my skin, which metal kind of does…
Anyway, I’m visiting from Amy’s Scavenger Hunt and wanted to let you know that I enjoy your blog!
I also have a couple of wooden pants hangers, but their mostly plastic.

The comment boxes aren’t showing up correctly for me, so I hope this goes though.

I’m here from Amy’s Scavenger Hunt.

I like the plastic hangers best, but I have more wire hangers than plastic ones.

If I weren’t so thrifty, I’d go for the really nice wooden hangers.

My great grandmother wrapped wire hangers with fabric to keep clothes from slipping off. We still have a lot of those. My mom can’t stand to throw them away because she knows it too my granny a lot of time to wrap them.

You have to love Joan Crawford references. Melodramatic Bi-Polar Actresses from the 50’s make for the best TV!

I actually read this book when I was 8 or 9 and tried to convince my mother that wire hangers are EEE–VILLLLL!!! She wasn’t buying it. She still collects wire hangers from the cleaners. Such is Life. I stopped through because of Amy’s Scavenger hunt. I’ll be back because I like your spot.

We use plastic hangers too. I have the regular ones for our clothes and small ones for my son’s things.

Howdy. Dropping by from Amy’s Scavenger Hunt to say hello.

I usually prefer plastic coat hangers … one way to keep things from slipping to is crochet a cover for them — it goes all the way around the part of the hanger that your clothes would touch. I haven’t done that in years, but it works :-)

I’m from Amy’s scavenger hunt as well. This is funny! I never really gave it much thought, but I use the plastic ones as well. Those antique ones look very cool, but complicated. I’d need some sort of manual to use those!

Hello! I am dropping by from Amy’s scavenger hunt. Actually, I never saw the movie but I don’t like wire hangers. I normally use plastic except when traveling (and we do that way too much, it seems). Wire hangers take up less space.

  13. Michelle Says:

I use a combination of wife and plastic hangers - just because that’s what I’ve ended up with over the years!

I’m just visiting from Amy’s Random Thoughts Scavenger Hunt!

Everytime I see a wire hanger, I think of Joan Crawford. So, of course, we don’t have them in our closet. Even the ones that come with the dry cleaning are returned to be recycled.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!

I hate wire hangers myself, so that scene freaked me out. It made me feel like hating wire hangers means you’re nuts! :) But they get all tangled up and they make dents in the shoulders of your clothes. I use plastic.

Stopping by from Amy’s Random Thoughts. You got a nice little shout out over there!

Enjoyed looking over your blog and especially liked the entry about birth order. I see you are the 4th boy followed by a “princess”… my husband is in the same place as you.

Also stopping by from Amy’s Random Thoughts.. Enjoyed your blog and for the record, I use plastic hangers. Each family member has their own color. For Jeans/pants etc.. I just hangers from the dry cleaners - the ones that have the little card board tube thats a little sticky to keep the pants from falling off. :-)

Hi Larry, just stopping by from the scavanger hunt to say hello. I use wire, plastic, wooden, and fabric hangers. Depends on the clothes. The wire ones come in handy still, but they do make me think of Mommy Dearest :)

  19. Gail Says:

Dropping by from Amy’s scavenger hunt. Don’t think I’ve seen the movie before. But use plastic coat hangers, hate the wire ones! I’ve heard you’re supposed to buy those nice wooden ones so everything will be coordinated but can never bring myself to spend the money for them!

I can’t believe you got 19 comments about hangers?!

  21. Carole Johnson Says:

Hi, Do you have instructions for crocheting a cover for wire coat hangers?
    Carole

  22. Carole Johnson Says:

Hi, If you want to use wire hangers because they take up less space. Put a wooden clothes pin and each end and even your slipperiest things won’t slip off
