This Saturday’s theme is Salty. I was born in Regina, Saskatchewan — right smack dab in the middle of the Canadian prairies.
There are some small, scenic fresh-water lakes close to Regina. But as for an ocean, it took me until my first visit to Vancouver to taste an ocean.
Imagine my surprise when I dog-paddled in the Pacific ocean for the first time and discovered the water was salty! It was one of those duh, lightbulb moments for me.
This photo is my attempt at a photo-collage. I’m the doofus with the fingers in my nose. The other guy is my friend Kenneth.
A few years ago, we spent the winter in Hawaii. I don’t swim; I just dogpaddle. Kenneth swims like a dolphin. He convinced me to a) shave my head that year (wrong) and b) try snorkelling (wrong, wrong).
Hence, there I am with “prescription” swim goggles, salty water up my nose, and a sunburnt head. It was a fun day in Hawaii though.

I am from Moose Jaw, of all places. Seeing the ocean was a HUGE deal for me the first time as well.

It is more difficult to drown in the ocean than in the fresh water swimming pool. Of course there are the stingrays and sharks but whose really thinking about them today. Great picture for the theme.

For about 10 years I lived near the northern California coastline. Great salty collage and enjoyed your write-up. Hope the sunburn on the head wasn’t too bad. My husband is almost bald and constantly getting burned. Have a great weekend.

I think your shaved head looked just fine, but I can imagine how hard the Hawaiian sun must have been on it!
I used to live in Hawaii and snorkeled in Hanauma Bay almost every weekend. I still miss it and it’s been over 15 years. Your photo really makes me want to go back again.

I guess I had a “duh” moment, though, realizing that shaved heads could get sunburned.

The first and only time I ever left the midwest (US) was a trip to California. On the last day of the trip we headed to beach but alas ended up in a car accident. I have yet to see the ocean and the ‘fact’ that it is salty is still just heresay to me.

Fun collage! Hawaii is wonderful - my hubby and I were in Maui for a friend’s wedding a few years back and it was amazing. I was born in Winnipeg, so I’m familiar with the prairies.

Great collage - perfect choice for our “salty” theme. Winter in Hawaii sounds wonderful.
