Beta testing AutoRoll
How many different blogrolls can one have in a sidebar?
Well, I think I may be reaching my limit. I was asked to beta-test AutoRoll (scroll down the page and you’ll find it at the end of my sidebar.)
AutoRoll is a blog widget that displays links to blogs your readers should like. The AutoRoll gives you all the techie stuff behind the blogroll but here’s my very general take on what the widget should do.
The more often a reader visits a specific blog, the greater his affinity is with this blog. The exact affinity formula is kept secret to prevent any form of abuse. Using the Criteo Predictive Engine, AutoRoll determines and displays for any given blog (i.e., my blog you’re reading right now) its instant relative affinity with all other blogs that have installed AutoRoll.
So friends, there’s the difference from other blogrolling systems. To show up on my AutoRoll, you must have AutoRoll installed on your blog as well. The man behind the mirror crunches my incoming traffic, matches it with other AutoRolls and then displays those matches on my AutoRoll.
If you don’t have AutoRoll installed, the entire matter would be quite transparent to you. However, if you’re a regular reader of my blog, the AutoRoll blogroll should direct you to other blogs with similar content to mine (yikes, that’s a scary thought now isn’t it!)
For me, I get more private stats about who’s visiting and reading my yadda yadda. In theory, I should also notice better qualified incoming traffic presuming there are enough other blog owners who also chose to install the AutoRoll widget.
Always ready to be a guinea pig, and as I was contacted directly to be a beta tester, I’ll do the beta thing for a while and report back. Let me know if you decide to install AutoRoll on your blog too so we can compare notes.
