SILVER: what is it?

This Saturday’s theme is SILVER. Ever wonder what happens to bamboo when you leave it out in the rain all winter? It turns a wonderful silver-hued colour. That is if the bamboo hasn’t been varnished. The el-cheapo ones just rot and fall apart.

I sometimes light so many tiki torches, lamps and even floating tea lights in my backyard pond, the neighbours often peer over the fence just to make sure the yard isn’t burning to the ground. Oh well, it gives the night garden some flair at least I think.

If the silver-coloured bamboo tiki torch wasn't silver enough, here's my weathered silver-coloured fence art. It was originally from a restaurant wrought iron gate which I rescued when the restaurant closed down. Restaurant name? Karrots.

It looks like a nice place to hang around on summer nights! My neighbour had a tiki torch, it scared the heck out of me when I saw it burning next door at 3am - I thought it was a ghostly apparition of the old man and woman who used to live there!! I had the guts to go and check it out - nope, tiki torch.

For a minute there I thought I was on a tropical island! Then the rational part of my sleepy brain kicked in and …. duh… it was summertime. Even here in Virginia Beach where we finally had our first night down into the 20’s in temperature, there are no flowers to speak of. This doesn’t count the poor daffodils across the street that were tricked into blooming by our recent false Spring. They are a bit wilted now.

These are great lanterns and I bet it is a magical place on those summer nights.

Over here where I am, there are lots of bamboos. I didn’t notice this. Thanks for the info.
Wasn’t able to join the Photo hunters. I was at a loss when I was going to post and all of a sudden I couldn’t open my own blogger as I was switched to the new blogger buzz and not the blogger beta. They said blogger beta is already dead and this is the new one. So anyway, no Photo Hunter today but have something special for everyone. It is much better than silver and gold. Please do visit if you have the time.

Wow, that’s really neat! I had no idea that bamboo would turn that colour when left out. Very cool. :) Great photos. :)

Thanks for stopping by and have a good day. :)

Great entries for this week’s theme. A weathered look somehow adds a nice touch to wood. Thanks for sharing. Mine is up too.

Thats a great photo hunt. I wish we had used tikis at the hawaiian party we had this year! but alas it was freezing outside!

I can hardly wait until the weather is once more conducive for tiki torches. :-)
