This Saturday’s theme is Technology. This sculpture was commissioned by the developers of this condo site in Vancouver. The original sculpture was done by a local native Haida artist. It was cast in bronze and placed at the entrance to the complex.

It’s an example of using traditional art forms, reinterpreting them into new artwork and then melding that creation with technology to produce a stunning symbol of strength, wisdom and watchfulness.

While bronze casting may not be considered “new” technology, it is a process developed through the centuries yet still requires a great deal of expertise to cast a piece as large as this.

Perhaps my point in this week’s theme is the hope that the creative soul in man which produces art is enhanced but never usurped by technology.

What a great choice. The old technology with the new, yet still very facinating.

I have never even heard of the Haida . . . now I feel ignorant! The scupture is fascinating; what interesting interpretations of faces. (I really like how your blog handles images; life is easier here!)

    Thank you for sharing!

That’s a nice take on the theme of Technology! With the Native theme, great minds think alike!
You should tell Meeyauw about the Haida people! :)

To be honest, this would have been one of the last things to come to my mind when hearing ‘technology’… And, Meeyauw: if you are ignorant, so am I. I have never heard of the Haida either.
