Flapping its gums in the wind

I’ve never been a big fan of the giant, white mushroom called BC Place Stadium. Architecturally, it is a concrete and teflon disaster that sits plop in the middle of downtown Vancouver.

That its teflon inflated roof hasn’t ripped before now is surprising to say the least. If you’ve been inside the stadium, the sound reverberation is almost enough to drive one crazy. Okay for a football game or the giant tractor pull show which has had to be cancelled (sigh) — neither of which you’ll likely catch me attending.

Perhaps I remember the stadium best for the New Year’s Eve debacle several years ago when those infamous “Three Tenors” fleeced so many people and celebrated with their families backstage at the stroke of midnight.

Oh, if only that poofy roof could talk. Flapping its old teflon gums in the wind, I’m sure the stories it could tell.
