Red roses for my birthday

This Saturday’s theme is RED. So what’s up with the flower arrangement and how does it relate to this week’s theme? Any red flower, and especially red roses, are my favourite.
For my birthday last year, an armload of fresh cut flowers like the ones in the photo arrived monthly at my door for a year.
Extravagant you say? Maybe to some. Everyone knows how difficult it is to buy me presents. My dear friend and neighbour Pat hit upon the perfect gift for me.
She knows how much I enjoy my garden and the variety of cut flowers I gather when the garden is in bloom. With my birthday in January (17th to be exact - hint hint), this gift of an armload of cut flowers every month was perhaps the most thoughtful gift anyone has given to me.
The long dark winter months were transformed with each month’s arrival of fresh cut flowers. Each month’s flower delivery contained at least a few roses. For me, there is something zen-like in arranging flowers. To have the opportunity to make a huge floral arrangement even in the dead of winter was a monthly reminder of my friendship with Pat.

Great pictures of “red” for this weeks’s hunt. Beautiful. I think fresh flowers throughout the year would be a wonderful gift!
And I didn’t stop by for the hunt last week so I’ll say it here that I really liked your post and photo for the “light” theme last week. Very nice!

It’s rather seldom that a man appreciates flowers. That’s very nice if you enjoy it. And it’s true during short winter days it brings light in your house.

Thanks for the visit.
I love red flowers but they are so hard to photograph and come out with the right color. Every time I try it fills me with wonder to think how complex and perfectly our eyes are made…. the ultimate cameras. And what a thoughtful gift …. flowers year round.
