Up in the air

I still miss the real live flight attendant demonstrating the safety features of an aircraft. Sadly, the videotapes don’t have the same impact as watching the bored-stiff demonstrations some flight attendants slept their way through.

My favourite signal was the two fingers on each hand pointing to the emergency exit at the front, over the wings and at the rear.

They would stretch the elastic on the oxygen mask so as not to muss their coif. I wonder how many times those oxygen masks did eject automatically? Thank goodness, other than turbulence, I’ve never had any real scare while flying.

For this artist, in-flight demos were as beautiful as a dance.

I had a scare before. But it was in a glider.
I was on approach for landing because there was a nice storm rushing it’s way to the airfield we used to fly. I had a new Cadet in the back seat.

Well on approach, all of a sudden my altitude just started plummeting!
I knew exactly what was up (or in this case going down)
I was being pushed down by a micro burst!

    Basically you’re at it’s mercy…..

Next thing we see is a tree stump inside of the cockpit, and the cadet in back whimpering and puking all over himself.

    What was I doing?

“WoooohoooO!!!! HAAAAha ha ha ha ha!! Wooooohoooooooo!!!!”

I was laughing my head off! Because I knew what could have happened and it could have been disastrous!

Thankfully the fiberglass nose absorbed most of the impact. We walked out of it without a scratch. Unfortunately the cadet needed a clean uniform. LOL
My back was a bit sore from compression, but all was good.

Yikes! I’d have been changing my pants not only cleaning up the puke! And you walked away? Way too scary for my liking — glad you made it out okay!

WestJet still has live demos, don’t they? Which way are you flying Larry?

I think I may have flown them all! Seriously, Air Canada, British Airways, American Airlines, — but haven’t flown WestJet for a few years — forgot they still have smaller planes. BTW, yes my bro’ does live in Ottawa but I don’t get there too often to visit.
