On the street where I live
Okay, my favourite brother, you were right.
When you called on Saturday morning, the snow was not that bad. After you hung up, you washed your car in Ottawa; I watched the snow fall and fall and fall.
The storm hit us full force and dumped a whack-load of snow on our usually rainy Vancouver landscape.
A dump of snow like this in Vancouver is generally uncommon. It’s misery to live with as well. The snow is heavy and wet. The streets ice up very fast. Everyone drives too fast and don’t have proper tires. Many people just stay home on days like this.
At least the dogs like it. Hamish was bounding through the snow like a bunny. Then he’d snuffle his little nose in the snow like he was making a tunnel. I think he got a bit of “brain freeze” at one point though as he surfaced from a snuffle and staggered a few steps before he got back on track.
The first picture is of my front entranceway. The pine tree branches in the background usually do not hang that low. There is a walkway along that side of the house and so the branches must be at least 10 feet from the ground without the snow. Brrr, scary isn’t it?
The next two pictures are of a fallen tree about a block away from my place. Brrrrrrr, even more scary. Glad my car wasn’t parked on the street there.
The fourth photo is a shot of the street where I live. You may be asking why the tree looks so funny.
My neighbourhood dates back to about 1920. We still have above ground hydro power lines — for that matter, most of Vancouver still has above ground hydro line.
We still have trolley buses with overhead power lines — go figure. The city tree pruning crews come past annually and whack away at the centre of the trees so that the hydro lines are clear.
Looks kind of nice with the snow though. I’m slip, sliding away, slip sliding away — taking the dogs for a walk again because they make me laugh.

Ahhh. That’s just a light dusting. Nothing compared to what we get here in New Brunswick.
I guess you guys are getting a cold snap there now too right?
