The Twister has been electronically usurped!

tara

Happy, Happy Birthday Tara! Now that you’re on the other side of 23, you know why us old folks get cranky some times.

I’ve posted before about Tara’s music — not because I’m her pseudo-uncle, I give you my unbiased thumbs way up to her music.

Her website, GreenTaRA, has some tracks you can download as well as some background info.

Here’s a heads-up: keep an eye out for the release of Tara’s new CD in the new year. I’ve heard some tunes from it and all I can say is “WOW”, you’re in for a musical treat.

I keep telling Tara, “Junos? My friend, let’s talk about the Grammys. All I ask is one quick shout out to Uncle Lar during your acceptance speech!”

I chatted with Deanna Teeple, (photo at right) one of Tara’s friends and fellow musicians.

Deanna is with the band 1luv whose album has just been released in Japan by Columbia records. She’s also begun work on a solo album and is part of a hip-hop duo with Ndidi Cascade.

You can listen to some of Deanna’s music on her website here or on the Canadian Music.com website.

Hard-working, earnest and deserving new artists.

Support our local Canadian talent whenever you can. They are leading the music industry throughout the world yet often seem to go unrecognized right here.

Rewind back to Tara’s birthday party

I was dogsitting Maxine and Luna while Tara’s birthday party was under way tonight. I took them for a walk around 10 pm. It’s snowing tonight and sticking. I tried not to fall flat on my ass while the dogs bounced around and ate some snow.

I always chuckle when I watch the dogs pee in the snow. I cross my fingers and hope no stupid person will unwittingly pick up a handful of snow from their pee spot and eat it. Yikes, not my problem.

Under the guise of bringing the dogs home, I got a peek at the people at Tara’s party. I was curious to know what was happening as from my place it sounded like dancing but I couldn’t quite tell what the thumping was all about.

oldtwister

Sure enough, there was a group of young people from diverse backgrounds all having a good time. Remember the days we played “Twister” at a party?

These young ‘uns were playing “Twister Moves.” Same principle as the old twister game but updated to the 21st century.

From a DVD, you listened to music and watched arrows float by on the TV screen. While standing on a special mat, you tried to match your footsteps to the floating arrows.

Way too much coordination for my old bones. But they were having a hoot with it and while one may call it dancing from my place it was just thumping — but in a good way.

I’ll keep you up to date on the yellow snow though — more my speed nowadays.
