I held her in my arms today
I held little Jolene in my arms today. She’s just a month old. She’s dressed in brightly coloured tie-dyed cotton rompers.
She smells of that new baby smell that’s so hard to describe other than she smells like a newborn.
Her eyes are only beginning to focus on things.
Today on their walk, Jolene’s Mom said a stranger looked at Jolene in her stroller and rather than the expected, “what a beautiful baby” the man cooed at Jolene and said, “oh yes little lady, you are good at math and science.” Then he smiled and walked away.
Jolene is clutching my big old hand in her little fist and stares right at me. Her eyes are huge and dark and processing millions of bits of visual information.
As I look into her eyes, my first thought is that I think she’s an old soul.
Ooops, what’s that smell? Well, so much for my old soul theory. She’s having a moment — a very satisfying poop in her pants moment. I’ve extrapolated her basic bodily function into some mystical fantasy. And now that’s she finished her old soul poop, she’s crying.
Back to you Mom.
Amazing. Miraculous. Wondrous.
The next generation ready to face whatever in her tie-dyed, pure cotton, hand-made rompers.

How trippy! (what the guy said) When my daughter Steph was born she had jaundice and had to be under the lights so we stayed an extra day in the hospital and the woman who was in the room with us looked at her and said, Too bad she has her dad’s nose. LMAO Biatch! I’m happy to say though she outgrew it.

isn’t it interesting how complete strangers seem to think they can make whatever statements about newborns?
