As high as an elephant’s eye
Even though it was a bit drizzly today, I had to take a picture of the six foot dahlia plants in my back yard. My friend Kenneth has one heck of a green thumb.
He has secret “fertilizer” mixtures he brews in plastic garbage cans alongside the house. He plucks, prunes and deadheads with meticulous attention.
I reap the benefit. Armfuls of dahlia blooms, some of them about eight inches in diameter. Sadly, that’s about the only flower I can identify. All the others I just call those “red ones”, those “yellow thingys” and of course those “purple prickly ones.”
With the weather turning to fall, I’ll still be cutting flowers for another three weeks at least. My vase collection is growing constantly. Such simple things bring me such enjoyment.

I don’t think I have any vases that would hold such large blooms but I do have a few vases around here. When I can find my GRRR battery charger for my camera I’ll take a picture of my favorite for you. It’s a Tiffin satin glass cobalt.
