Couch potatoes be aware

Now here’s an artist who is a real live wire.

Kathryn Kenworth created an installation piece consisting of wood, wire and a couch. (Click on the photo to see a larger version of the work.)

live wire

Aptly titled, “untitled” May 2005, Kenworth installed miniature powers poles across a couch, ran the power lines out a window and connected the wires to a live power line.

What does it all mean? Connections, interiors, landscapes, the ordinary as a power conduit.

You wouldn’t want it in your home? That’s the entire point of installation art. It’s conceptual. It’s thought provoking. Sometimes its very simplicity is unnerving.

A picture never does installation pieces justice. You have to experience the installation, hear the hum of the live power lines, feel the smooth wood floor beneath your feet, look out the window at the landscape and the live wires connected to a power line. All these ideas placed within an ordinary room.

Brava, I say Ms. Kenworth, brava. You can check out other creative pieces from Ms. Kenworth HERE.
