Criminals in our ‘hood

What excitement we had this morning!

About 10:30 am, just as the dog-walking community was making its mid-morning rounds, police cars screeched to a halt in front of my house.

The suspect was attempting a get-away on a broken-down bicycle which he had just dumped. The 30ish caucasian fellow tried to flee down the walkway of my next door neighbour.

Yikes, now the police had their guns out and were telling the man to stop and drop his weapon.

WEAPON — yes, you read it correctly, he had a weapon. A sensible person would have immediately made him/herself scarce. What did I and many of my neighbours do? We stood in a group watching the drama unfold for over an hour. Maybe I should watch more of those CSI shows just to know how one reacts in such instances.

The guy didn’t struggle much. He was handcuffed and spread-eagled face down on the sidewalk with about six burly policeman standing round him in a tight circle.

Apparently the weapon was a toy gun. The suspect had been happily doing B&E’s from house to house along our street. He didn’t have anything like televisions or stereos strapped to his bike so I assumed he, and his gun, were searching for cash and/or jewellry.

Both of which I have none, thank goodness.

A take-down, a weapon, police cars and a paddywagon all in my driveway this morning. I guess even at SleepyHollowKits there is drama every once in a while.

Wow now that sounds exciting! He’s lucky it wasn’t my walkway he was trying to flee down, or my house he was trying to break into- I have a large over-protective dog. LOL
