R R Rasputin, lover of the Russian Queen

Rasputin: click to enlarge

It’s getting closer to the end of October so my posts are running to the weird end of the spectrum.
At www.CelebrityMorgue.com you can find a plethora of details surrounding celebrity deaths.

Here’s the entry about Rasputin:

The body of the Russian monk and favorite to the czarina, Grigori Efimovich Rasputin (1872-1916).
On December 30, 1916, a plot to assassinate Rasputin transpired. The monk drank several glasses of poisoned wine, and consumed several pastries with potassium cyanide as an active ingredient.
When this failed to stop Rasputin, he was shot by Prince Felix Yusupov, shot again, stabbed repeatedly, and finally met his end drowned in the icy Neva river.
There are stories that Rasputin’s penis was severed from his body prior to his demise, but we believe those to be false.”

Well I’m so happy to learn that the penis story is probably false. If you’re not familiar with this lusty peasant who allegedly became the Czarina’s lover, just check out the many movie versions.

From the classic B-Movie Rasputin The Mad Monk to the Golden Globe winning 1996 movie starring Alan Rickman.

Rickman’s portrayal of Rasputin is brilliantly overblown as Rickman leers and chomps the scenery in his earthy portrayal of the mad monk. The Rasputin legend has become so compelling a musical version has recently been mounted.

Only for the morbidly inclined. Read more at Celebrity Morgue.
